Why We Are Fat

Too much body fat? There are many factors that can and should be considered when trying to discover why we are carrying too much. Main stream thoughts all pretty much center on the concept that we get fat because we consume more calories than we consume.

Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle (BFFM) is an E-book that carries the traditional “you have eaten more than you have used so you are fat and can only lose the fat by burning more than you eat” message. It is probably one of the best written and easy to understand products of its type. When I was in need of losing weight to get the promotion I had earned in the Navy, I used BFFM to successfully lose about 20 pounds. It worked…in fact it worked so well that if you are skeptical about the HCG Diet, this would be the only other program I would suggest. That was some time ago and somehow I am back to being overweight (probably because I suffer from overeating and I certainly consume the “wrong” types of food.

THE HCG DIET PROPOSES A DIFFERENT THEORY

The basic concept is that our Hypothalamus gland has gotten off track and has gone into fat storing mode. It is proposed that this gland controls when, where, why, and how excess food energy is stored. Once it gets off track, it goes into a mode that progressively worsens and causes more and more of the food we eat to be processed into fat stores.

How does the Hypothalamus gland get “off track”?

• Passed down to you – heredity

• Long periods of fasting followed by gorging

• Eating the wrong types of foods (too much sugar/fat etc.)

• Eating processed foods that are digested and present a flood of food energy into your system. (this seems to be a significant factor…read “Fat Land” to learn more

Somehow we have shocked our Hypothalamus gland into slowing down our metabolism and storing more and more body fat. Once we have gotten off track it is very difficult to get it set correctly again. In fact, most of the diets that drive us to restrict calories actually cause the hypothalamus gland to get further off track!

Of course, this the theory promoted by the HCG diet…but it looks like most of the people who have tried this diet have had great results with regards to actually KEEPING the excess weight off. It certainly adds weight to the theories about the true cause of the overweight condition!
